Small, simple, and surprisingly powerful
It’s my not-so-secret secret: I love a Lazy Susan. Just obsessed. Tuck one inside a cabinet or pantry and it’s almost an instant functionality boost to any space. These simple little spinning trays are one of the easiest organizing tools to incorporate — and they’re totally underrated!

If you’re looking for a low-effort way to make your space more functional without buying a dozen matching bins or overhauling your entire kitchen, here’s why you should start with a turntable.
1. They make things so much easier to reach
This is the most obvious perk, and honestly, it’s reason enough. A Lazy Susan eliminates the “back of the cabinet” problem. You don’t have to dig through rows of sauces or knock over five spice jars just to reach the one you actually need. With a quick spin, everything comes to you — no contortionist moves required.
This is especially helpful in deep pantry shelves, upper kitchen cabinets, under the sink, and any other awkward spot where small items tend to disappear.
2. They work with awkward or small spaces
Lazy Susans shine in places where other organizing tools fall short. That narrow space beside the fridge? The impossible-to-reach corner in your lower cabinet? The weirdly shaped shelf under your bathroom sink? A turntable fits in, spins around, and instantly creates access in spots that usually just collect clutter.
They’re a great solution for people working with smaller kitchens, rental storage challenges, or just less-than-ideal cabinet layouts (which is… a lot of us).
3. They keep your stuff visible — which means less waste
One of the biggest problems with clutter-prone areas is that items get buried and forgotten. You don’t use what you can’t see. When everything is visible and within reach, you’re more likely to actually use what you already have — whether it’s a forgotten bottle of sesame oil or the third jar of peanut butter hiding in the shadows.
This small shift can save you money, reduce waste, and help you feel more in control of what’s in your home.
4. They’re not precious, complicated, or expensive
A Lazy Susan doesn’t require a label maker, a deep clean, or a five-step system. You don’t even have to sort by color (unless that’s your thing). You just group like items together, set them on the tray, and you’re done.

There are no instructions, no tech, no install — and they’re inexpensive. You can find decent ones for around $10–15, and they last. That’s a low investment for some organizing tools that will make your daily life noticeably easier.
5. They actually help you maintain order
Sometimes a product is “organizing adjacent” — it looks nice at first but doesn’t help you keep things organized long term. Lazy Susans do. Because they only hold a certain amount, they act as natural boundaries. If your turntable is overflowing, it’s a clear sign that it’s time to pare down or rehome a few items.
This kind of gentle structure helps prevent clutter from creeping back in. And when your system is this easy to maintain, you’re much more likely to stick with it.
6. They’re useful in just about every room
Once you start using them, it’s hard to stop. I’ve used Lazy Susans in kitchens (obviously), but also in:
Fridges – for condiments, dressings, and jams that otherwise get forgotten in the back
Bathrooms – to corral skincare, hair products, or daily-use items
Craft cabinets – for glues, paints, and other supplies
Kids’ spaces – think art supplies, snack stations, or bath toys
Cleaning closets – for sprays, scrubbers, and bottles under the sink
They’re even great in upper cabinets if you have limited mobility or want to make better use of vertical space.
7. They’re surprisingly satisfying to use
There’s something kind of delightful about that smooth spin. It makes your space feel functional, yes — but also just better. It’s not about perfection or Pinterest-worthy pantries. It’s about designing small systems that work with your habits and make your day a little smoother.
And if that system happens to be fun to use? Even better.

My organzing tools bottom line?
Lazy Susans are one of the most reliable, flexible organizing tools I recommend as a professional organizer. They help reduce friction in your daily routine, keep your home more functional, and don’t ask much in return.
If you’re looking for an easy organizing win that you’ll actually use (and keep using), a turntable might just be the answer hiding in plain sight — probably behind a jar of marinara you forgot you had.
♻️ Bonus: My favorite lazy susans that are easier on the environment
If you’re ready to give a turntable a spin (had to), here are a few of my go-to options that are as sustainable as they are useful:
🪵 Brightroom Bamboo Turntable
A simple, sturdy bamboo turntable that fits beautifully in most pantries or cabinets. Bamboo is a renewable resource, and this one holds up well to daily use without screaming “I bought this on a whim at 11 PM.”
🌱 iDesign EcoWood Turntable
Made with FSC-certified paulownia wood, this one has a lighter feel and pairs nicely with natural or minimalist aesthetics. Great for bathroom counters or open shelving where it’ll be seen (and admired).
♻️ iDesign Recycled Plastic Turntables
These are made from recycled plastic, come in multiple sizes, and feature non-slip surfaces — which makes them perfect for under the sink or in the fridge. The higher edges also mean fewer topples when you’re in a hurry.
🛍️ Thrifted or Secondhand Turntables
Check local thrift stores, estate sales, or Facebook Marketplace — Lazy Susans pop up all the time, often in great condition. You might even find a solid wood one you can clean up and give new life. (Pro tip: Avoid cracked plastic or flimsy metal. A little weight = better stability.)
✨ Made Trade Artisan Wood Turntables
If you’re in the market for something truly beautiful (and ethically handcrafted), Made Trade carries wood turntables that feel more like furniture than a kitchen tool. Pricey, yes. Worth it if it’s living on your table or counter? Also yes.

Reminder:
Organizing tools should support your routines — not just add more stuff to your home. These options hold up well over time and feel like a true upgrade, not clutter in disguise.
And if you’re still not sure what size or material will work best for your space, that’s exactly the kind of thing I help my clients figure out. Reach out anytime — I’d love to help you find a system that spins smoothly with your life.
