Cozify and Organize Your Space with More Sustainable Living Room Decor
Looking to upgrade your living room decor game come this fall? The weather will be turning and most of us will spend more time indoors, especially the living room! (Make sure to stock up on that Vitamin D!) It’s where all of the hanging out happens- watching shows, reading books, playing toys with young children, playing games, snacking, and just connecting with others. I would go as far to say that the living room is a heart of the home, second only to the kitchen. If you aren’t super happy with the current state of your living room, consider giving it a facelift using more sustainable choices.
Where to find eco-friendly secondhand decor in Columbus? Sustainable Furniture
The most sustainable living room decor you can use for your space is what you already own! If you’re not happy with the condition of your items or just need to upgrade your space, the next best would be to shop secondhand.
Thrift stores aren’t the only way to shop secondhand in Columbus! I love visiting higher-end consignment or vintage shops for unique and high-quality items. Some of my favorites are: Eclectiques Antique Mall, Grandview Mercantile, Magpie Market, and Fresco Furnishings. Chairish is also one of my favorites but they aren’t local to Columbus, only online. Of course, the downside to shopping these awesome stores is that their inventory is not guaranteed. You never know if they’ll have what you need when you visit! So these places are great if you don’t need items immediately and are willing to play the waiting game until you find that perfect piece.
Where to find new living room decor that’s more sustainable?
To source living room decor that’s new and eco-friendly the next best place to look are local Columbus shops. T.Y. Fine Furniture is a local Columbus shop that makes all their furniture inventory right here in Columbus from organic wood. That’s pretty awesome! Trove is another favorite that values eco-friendly spaces and knows how their goods are made. Grid Furnishings is another independent shop that calls Worthington home!
Looking for more eco-friendly organizing bins to store items?
In order to find bins and containers that are better for the environment it’s best to avoid purchasing those made with virgin plastics. Some options for awesome bins made from recycled plastics are: iDesign (can be found at The Container Store), Hay crates and boxes, and any other container made of more biodegradable materials. These can include paper, wood, natural fiber felts, and wicker! You can find many bins and baskets made from these materials at stores like Homegoods (I love the Graceland location!).
Living with an intentional, eco-conscious mindset
When upgrading your living room decor, consider doing so with more eco-friendly options. I’m certainly not perfect in purchasing all eco-friendly furniture or decor by any means! I do believe, though, that it’s important to know where to look in case you want to make an informed and intentional decision to make a sustainable purchase!
